Perak state allocates RM4.9mil for various welfare institutions

What say you on the issue below?

A total of 65 welfare voluntary institutions in the state have been provided with financial assistance by the Perak Welfare Department.

Its director Chong Phaik Kee said the institutions comprising 24 children’s homes, 32 homes for the disabled, and nine old folk’s homes received an allocation of RM4.9mil.

She said the sum received by each of the institution was based on their needs.

“The grant is a form of encouragement and motivation to these institutions.

“Both the Federal and state governments have recognised their efforts in playing a proactive role to contribute to society,” she told reporters recently.

She had said this after Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Heng Seai Kie presented the annual grants to the representatives of the institutions at Taman Seri Putri in Batu Gajah recently.

Heng added that there were still many voluntary institutions that were not registered under the Care Centres Act 1993.

She said owners of such institutions who failed to register could be subjected to a fine of RM10,000, or a jail term of up to two years or both.

“Therefore I urge all those voluntary institutions that have yet to register, to do so fast in order to avoid unnecessary complications.

“Only when these institutions are properly registered with the ministry, can the government extend a helping hand to them financially,” she added.
