In the final, Malaysia, with several former internationals including Chan Keat Wwee, Ho Hon Seong, Kwek King Kiong and Chen Wooi Haw, defeated New York United World Chinese Soccer Club 2-1 to win the competition.

In the preliminary round, Malaysia had defeated China Qingdao Soccer Club 2-1; Hainan Club 84 Soccer Club 2-0 and San Francisco VIP Soccer Club 3-0 to qualify for the final.

“The players gave their best. Most of us had slowed down but we have the experience to match our opponents,’’ said Hung Meng.

A total of seven teams took part in the competition, ninth in the series, organised by the World Chinese Soccer Association based in New York.

Malaysia’s participation in the competition was supported Wen-Parker Soccer Club in New York and American Malaysian Alex New.

“Alex’s generosity provided us the privilege to take part in the competition. We are thankful to him and Wen-Parker Soccer Club,’’ said Hung Meng.
