Charity element for symposium

THE Malaysia International Golf Symposium (MIGS) at the Holiday Inn, Glenmarie Resort in Shah Alam from Dec 15 to 17 will also have charitable and social elements.

The MIGS is organised by the Malaysian Golf Association (MGA) and supported by Tourism Malaysia, the Asean Golf Federation and the Golf Club Managers’ Association of Malaysia.

MGA treasurer Bryan Perera, who is also the organising chairman of MIGS, said the Swing fore Charity event was part of their corporate social responsibility programme.

“Proceeds from the Swing fore Charity programme will go to charity as well as the setting up of an Athlete’s Scholarship and Welfare Fund. We have indentified Rumah Keluarga Kami, a home for underprivileged, abused and abandoned children, as a beneficiery.

“The Athlete’s Scholarship and Welfare Fund is to assist our athletes to pursue their education,” he added.

The MIGS, with the theme ‘Trends and Challenges: Sharing a Destiny’ was an initiative by MGA to assist their affiliates to improve and refresh their knowledge and skills in golf management.

The topics to be tabled at the symposium include Entrepreneurship; Leadership and Team Management; Changes in Golf; Customer Service; Food and Beverage Profitability; Golf Tourism, Corporate Sustainability-Respect for the Environment; and Ageing Membership - A Global Phenomenon.

The speakers are Bill Sanderson, Gucharan Singh, Paul Gibbons, Chris Syers, Radin Ikram, Low Teck San, Bryan Perera and Mohd Rom Muslim.

Bryan said they were expecting club managers, captains, committee memebers from golf clubs as well as students to register for the MIGS.

“The participants will return with valuable knowledge which will help them in their related industry,” said Bryan.

The registration fee for MIGS, inclusive of the charity golf, is RM650 per participant while entry only for MIGS is RM550. The cost is RM400 for students (without charity golf).

The Swing fore Charity will be played at the Glenmarie Golf and Country Club on Dec 15. The entry fee is RM500 per player or RM2,000 for a flight.
